While mediation aims to be a relatively peaceful process, a certain amount of conflict is not unusual. For some couples, the conflict is present throughout the mediation and carries on after the divorce is final. For these couples, parenting responsibilities become very challenging.

A Parenting Coordinator (PC) will use ongoing mediation practices to help parents work together to make sound parenting decisions. The PC helps parents in conflict see past the emotions that affect their decisions. The PC's primary focus is the best interest of the child(ren).

PCs meet with parents as frequently or infrequently as is needed. They also, when necessary, communicate with teachers, therapists, and any other important people to the child(ren) in order to best know the child(ren)'s needs.
